April Franklin has over 25 years of experience working with metal. Her practice spans the maintenance of large-scale outdoor works, the fabrication of one-of-a-kind architectural pieces, and her own passion for pattern-welded steel. This breadth of experience has given her extensive knowledge of a wide range of materials, processes, and techniques.

Franklin has taught at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina, Peters Valley School of Craft in New Jersey, and The Steel Yard in Rhode Island. She currently manages the Graduate Program’s Fabrication Lab at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. Franklin also collaborates with her wife, ceramic artist Kathy King, creating metal accents and fittings that complement sculptural ceramics and wearable art.​
